Amazon Wildlife
Birds

It is estimated that 1 hectre of undisturbed Amazonian flooded forest is home to about 125 bird species, though not all
will be present at any given area at the same time.
The Lower Amazon is the richest wading bird region of the Amazon. Among the most beautiful of the wading birds are the
spoonbill and the scarlet ibis.

Mammals
As spectacular as are the Rainforest and Amazon River, most visitors yearn to see a plathora of mammal species. Most often
they come with unrealistically high expectation of how much wildlife they will see, such as jaguars, leopards, or guarillas. To avoid
being disappointed it is best to visit the Amazon with the point of view that nature comes as an assualt of plant, insect and bird life.
Mammals are an occassional bonus, icing on the cake, as it were, rather than the principal object of attraction.
Amazonia's long period of geographical isolation has resulted in some 600 species of mammals feeling right at home in the Amazon
Rainforest.
